First Up
Fourteen years after Faith Hedgepeth, a 19-year-old UNC sophomore, was beaten to death in her off-campus apartment, a Durham jury convicted Miguel Salguero Olivares on Friday of first-degree murder, rape, sexual offense, and burglary. He was arrested in 2021 after a DWI stop, when prosecutors say the DNA sample he gave matched evidence from the scene. Jurors deliberated for six hours over two days.

Before You Go
Elizabeth Murray's "Bob," a nearly 11-by-11-foot painting that hung for decades in RTP's Elion-Hitchings building, crashed to the floor when crews stripped the building for demolition. It's restored and now on view at the Nasher — the second-largest painting Murray ever made, lopsided because a studio assistant cut the frame wrong.
