First Up

Durham's red wolf family lives in New York now. On Tuesday, volunteer pilots flew two red wolves, Mac and Sabine, down from the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem, N.Y., for the Museum of Life and Science, then carried first-time parents Carolina and Jacques and their five pups back north. Only about 21 adult red wolves are left in the wild, all in eastern North Carolina, and the museum's animal care director, Sherry Samuels, sees Durham's part in it plainly: "We're just temporary housing."
